Digital X-Ray: 80% Less Radiation!
Digital X-rays are used with computerized equipment and software to capture X-ray images of your mouth and teeth. Digital radiography is safer than traditional X-rays because no chemicals are used and there is less radiation exposure. The images are instantly viewable, easily enhanced for improved viewing, and can be stored electronically and emailed to specialists and insurance companies. For your comfort, we can use phosphorus plate X-rays instead of digital sensors. If you find the sensors uncomfortable, please let Dr. Allen know.
Panoramic X-Ray: A 360-Degree View
A panoramic X-ray gives us a comprehensive view of your mouth, including your teeth, jawbone, jaw joint, and sinuses. This helps us to diagnose the position of wisdom teeth, jaw joint problems, sinus problems, abscesses, and receding bone levels resulting from periodontal disease.
Spectra Cavity Detection
Our Spectra system scans teeth and stores a digital image in our computer. On the image, a reading (number) is assigned to areas of the tooth to show bacterial levels. Over the course of time, we can compare the images to determine when a filling is needed on top surface of tooth. We also use Spectra or DIANGOdent before sealing teeth to ensure that tooth decay won't grow beneath the sealant.
DIAGNOdent: Laser Cavity Detection
DIAGNOdent is an advanced laser technology that helps us identify tooth decay. With DIAGNOdent, we can more accurately find decay in its earliest stages, and early detection enables us to provide treatment before your tooth and oral health are put at serious risk for infection and more extensive treatment. DIAGNOdent is also used to clean your teeth before sealants are placed.
VELscope Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer claims one American life every hour of ever day. While people who use tobacco or alcohol are at greater risk, anyone can develop oral cancer. Survival rate increases tremendously when the cancer is detected and treated in the earliest stage. With VELscope, Dr. Allen can find oral cancer cells before they surface in the mouth. It's not an exaggeration to say, VELscope could save your life!
Arestin: Topical Antibiotic for Gum Disease
Arestin is used with scaling and root planing to significantly reduce the depth of the infected pockets and prevent the progression of periodontal disease. Arestin is a powdered antibiotic that is applied to your periodontal pockets to help us control the infection in your mouth. It is important to remember that Arestin is not a cure for periodontal disease. It is just a tool that helps us to restore your gums to optimal health.
Oraqix: No Shots!
Oraqix is a new liquid anesthetic that is gently placed around your tooth at the level of the gums as a form of "no shot" dentistry. The liquid turns into a gel as it sits around the tooth. Within minutes, the area will be numb enough to work on.
Intraoral Camera: Seeing Things Together
An intraoral camera is a highly advanced innovation in dentistry that allows us to get a close-up view inside your mouth. In addition to being convenient and easy to use, the intraoral camera presents a great opportunity for patient education. The images are displayed on a television or computer monitor so that you can see what we see when we look inside your mouth. With a clear understanding of your dental condition, you'll be able to make treatment decision with confidence.
Ultrasonic Scaling: The Alternative to Scraping
Ultrasonic scaling is one of the most effective procedures for treating periodontal disease. Ultrasonic scaling offers more efficient removal of plaque and tartar, less need for hand removal of stubborn debris, and greater comfort for you throughout your periodontal treatment.
